All of your choices Matter-what you choose to eat, think, feel, and believe; how you relate to others; your life's work; and the rhythm of your life all impact your well-being. If some aspect of your health or life is not working as well as you would like, you have many options.

Incorporating therapeutic foods will benefit not only your body, but also your mind, emotions, and spirit. Perhaps you're more drawn to spiritual work such as meditation or attitudinal healing which will positively impact every aspect of your health and life. Or perhaps some coaching on work-life balance can bring you back to equilibrium. It doesn't matter where you begin. Fall is one of the best times to make new choices to create a healthy, fit body, and a life you love.

Problems are an invitation to change. There are viable solutions to all the maladies that you are facing, whether they are health, relationship, money, or lifestyle issues. You have far more control over your health and your life than you realize. Your body and your life are shaped by a variety of factors, internal and external. This e-newsletter offers solutions for the Whole person. If you're looking for the "quick-fix" or "magic bullet" approach, you will never achieve lasting results.

The foundation of my philosophy is Holistic and based on my 25 years professional training and clinical experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nutritional Therapy, Holistic Health, Attitudinal Healing, and Spiritual modalities.

Your Health and the Seasons

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you noticed that you're more congested, wheezy, allergic, or prone to skin or digestive problems at this time of year? Or perhaps you're more melancholy or sad for no apparent reason.
Your physical health, mental outlook, and emotional state flow with the cycles of nature. You experience the cyclical changes of nature even if you live in a climate with less dramatic climactic changes. Responses in your body and mind are occurring that aren't related to the temperature.
In Autumn nature is contracting and moving its energy inward. It's time to pull your energy inward and slow the pace of the active summer season. It is also a time of harvest and storing energy. The excesses of one season manifest as illness in the next. If you continue to eat cooling summer foods such as raw foods, juices, ice cream, fruits, and others, excessive mucus will build in your lungs and impair your immune system.
How well you transition through the seasons lets you know how balanced your health is. Smooth seasonal transitions are crucial to your wellness and tend to be times when many experience more intensity in chronic health conditions. Tension, stagnation, and illness occur when you resist the natural flow and the changes that go along with it.
By adapting to seasonal changes you can maintain good health. Seasonal changes are an opportune time to work on your "whole" health-mind, body, emotions, spirit, and life.
In this newsletter I'll discuss the five important aspects for you to examine during the autumn. These include:
1.    The foods you eat
2.    The activities and exercise you engage in
3.    Your energy and how you use it
4.    Mental and emotional states that are likely to surface
5.    Your spiritual health
Health Conditions Related to Autumn
According to TCM Health Philosophy, Autumn impacts the lungs and large intestine. Colds, sinus problems, lung ailments such as allergies and asthma, digestive problems, skin conditions, weakness in the arms, flaccid biceps, weak abdominal muscles, pain and/or weakness in the thumb and index fingers, rounded shoulders, (as though carrying the weight of the world on one's shoulders) are some common health disharmonies that are prevalent during this season.
On a mental/emotional level, if there is disharmony in these organs, specific emotions and characteristics will be more pronounced. Perhaps during this time of year you've noticed that you become indecisive, lethargic, depressed, unable to see positive solutions and move beyond adversity. Or you may engage in self-blame and not-good-enough syndrome; become unresponsive, indifferent, negative, ineffective, isolated, self-destructive, and overly self-protective. These symptoms are caused by lung and large intestine imbalances, and originate from poor diet, excessive or insufficient activity, climate, and/or organ malfunction.
Most dry conditions are exacerbated during this season and are related to the lungs-dry skin and throat, chapped lips, itchiness and most skin conditions, and excessive thirst. Even more common are conditions caused by an excess of mucus forming fluids. This creates problems in the lungs by inhibiting the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. When too much moisture or mucus collects in the lungs, these gases cannot pass freely.
Fruit and cow's milk products, including cheese, yogurt, and ice cream, cause a lot of mucus in the respiratory system. Too much mucus in the tissues of the lungs makes them susceptible to inflammation and hypersensitive to the effects of irritants in the air. Mucus traps harmful pollutants allowing them to accumulate rather than be excreted. Phlegm in the lungs is often caused by weak digestion. Each person's health plan should be individualized; however, some general guidelines are listed below.
The Healing Power of Lotus - Foods in the lotus family are very beneficial for lung health and are not familiar to most people. Learn about lotus root, lotus seeds and lotus tea and their uses.
Medicinal Mushrooms are powerful immune boosters and have therapeutic properties for treating conditions. Find out more, including specific ones to use as food, and others to use as a supplement.
For the Body -- Oxygen Strengthens Immunity
Exercise and activities that promote higher oxygen levels in the blood will make you feel more alert and positive during the autumn and winter. Raising oxygen levels also allows the brain to function better and promotes a positive mental outlook. Try yoga, tai chi or qigong. Brisk walking, hiking, or riding a bike outdoors are helpful. These all improve lung health and help to eliminate some of the above symptoms.
Learn deep diaphragmatic Breathing and practice it daily. When you fully oxygenate your body with deep breathing,you will strengthen lung health, immunity, increase energy, and have more control over your moods, emotions, and your effectiveness in life.
You can use breathing to influence the involuntary (sympathetic nervous system) that regulates blood pressure, heart rate, circulation, digestion and many other bodily functions.
Your Mind and Emotions Can Weaken Health
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is a season of letting go, and many have much resistance to releasing habits and choices that no longer serve their highest good. Often the tendency is to focus on what you are losing.

Why not keep your attention on what you have to gain. Get excited about the new positives you are bringing into your life as a result of releasing the old. Exercise your imagination in positive ways. "Holding on" is often reflected in the bowels, and constipation is your body's way of letting you know you are holding on to things mentally or in your life that need to be released. Releasing emotional attachments is vital to lung and large intestinal health. Grief and sorrow are the emotions associated with these organs. These emotions congest the lungs. When they are identified, expressed and transformed, repression is cleared. Appropriate diet and professional Attitudinal Healing Therapy can assist in clearing grief. Click here for information.

For the Spirit -- The Higher Path to Health
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is within you an inherent nature that is instinctive and has all the answers you are seeking. Your awareness of that aspect intensifies it. So, why not turn down the volume of your mind for 5-15 minutes a day. Sit quietly and allow that intuitive part of you to emerge. Focus on your breathing and ignore any thoughts that come.
Quieting the mind allows a certain kind of knowledge to come to you which cannot be accessed through your typical ways of thinking. This receptive state may be foreign to your active, thinking, problem-solving way of being. However, with consistency of this practice, problems take care of themselves, stress dissolves, productivity and performance improve, and opportunities for a richly rewarding life and abundant health will present themselves to you.
Lifestyle Tips for Greater Health
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cultivate friendships with people who are positive, enthusiastic, caring, and trustworthy. Be that kind of friend to others. Learn and practice the art of communicating effectively and lovingly in ways that are a win for everyone. Let go of anything that is not feeding you in a positive way. This may mean toxic thoughts, beliefs, people, or external clutter in the home, and workplace. Doing so will help you harmonize with the autumn season and improve your health.
