radiant health, harmonious emotions and
joyful, passionate, abundant living. This
ezine will provide information on the relationship
between diet, attitudes, lifestyle and well-being.
Every life has
meaning and endless potential. Passionate, radiant,
healthy living is a possibility for all of us. Many
are experiencing barriers to this ideal. It is our
mission to help you remove those barriers.
The foundation of our philosophy is Holistic and based
on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine,
Attitudinal Healing, and spiritual philosophies that
embrace all people and all life forms. This
e-newsletter will offer articles and tips for our
physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and lifestyle
aspects. The contents do not serve as a substitute for
professional health care.
All of our choices Matter - what
we choose to eat, think, feel, and believe; how we
relate to others; our life's work; and the rhythm of
our life all impact our well-being. If some aspect of
your health or life is not working as well as you
would like, you have many options. Incorporating
therapeutic foods will benefit not only your body, but
also your mind, emotions, and spirit. Perhaps youire
more drawn to spiritual work such as meditation or
attitudinal healing which will positively impact every
aspect of your health and life. Or perhaps some
coaching on work-life balance can bring you back to
equilibrium. It doesnit matter where you
begin. 2003 is the best time to make new choices that
will create a healthier reality.

Understanding Immunity
Are you eating, thinking and
living in ways that support a healthy immune function?
Whether we
contract immune diseases that are contagious or
climate-induced depends on our vitality and the
strength of our personal immune system. When our
immunity is strong, bacteria, viruses and external
influences will not harm us. We easily resist disease
and adapt to any environment. If our immune system
is not strong, and our overall health is weak,
diseases easily enter our system and will cause colds,
flu, asthma, allergies, yeasts, fungi, cancer, HIV,
aids, and other degenerative diseases. Weak immunity,
including degenerative diseases, has reached epidemic
proportions in recent years.
Our immunity is
our protective aspect that defends the body against
disease factors, including climate extremes and
assaults of germs, bacteria and viruses. Our
protective immunity comes from important substances in
food and oxygen.
Our DNA directs cellular activities. Cells are the
instrument for our immunity. When cells are damaged
by free radicals we are more susceptible to disease.
Are You Oxygen
Starved?
Tissues and cells of the body are often oxygen
starved. When this happens we feel heavy, sluggish,
depressed and lacking in vital energy. Proper
oxygenation clears stagnancy, and energizes. Adequate
oxygen is necessary for assimilation of vitamins and
other nutrients. In order to function vibrantly, the
brain and heart require adequate oxygen, and the liver
needs it to rebuild cells. Oxygen helps eliminate
toxins and waste in the body and destroys viruses,
germs, parasites, fungi, yeasts. Those with weak
immunity, including degenerative disease, need more
oxygen
To Increase
Oxygen
Exercise regularly, especially outdoors in any
climate. Physical activity like dancing, brisk
walking, hiking, cross country skiing, racquet ball
and tennis are a few activities that increase oxygen.
Pranayama (yoga breathing exercises) is one of the
most simple and effective ways to increase oxygen, and
anyone can practice. Join a yoga class or consult one
of the many books or tapes available. Click here for some of our
favorites. Other practices that circulate energy such
as Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Shiatsu Therapy, Acupuncture and
Visualization are excellent ways to increase oxygen
and strengthen immunity.

Worst Foods for
Immunity
Poor food combining and overeating cause toxins in the
body. Excessive meat eating and the uric acid
build-up that comes with it uses up oxygen reserves.
Rancid foods cause free radicals and contribute to
weakened immunity and degenerative disease. Major
sources of rancidity are overheated fats and oils,
fried foods, polyunsaturated vegetable oils,
hydrogenated vegetable oils and margarine and rancid
nuts and seeds. These all compromise the immune
system.
Chemicalized, highly processed sugar and fat-laden
foods are the biggest threat to our immunity and
overall health.
Foods to
Emphasize
Eat fresh, raw or lightly cooked sprouts; 5-6 cups of
vegetables daily, especially cabbage, turnips, kale,
cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts. These contain
a group of compounds that have antioxidant properties,
substances which protect against cancer, and they
contain antibiotic and antiviral characteristics.
Raw, saltless sauerkraut and dried shiitake and reishi
mushrooms are also beneficial to immunity. Why
not try our Mushroom Vegetable Soup or Herbed Chickpea
Stew. We're also featuring our Sprouts and
Greens Salad. Click here
for recipes that support healthy immune function.
Use immune-enhancing
oils that are rich in omega-3 and GLA fatty acids,
including cold pressed, unrefined flax seed oil,
pumpkin seed and chia seed oils.
Under eating causes more energy
and oxygen to be available from the breath. Digestion
is more efficient when we under eat. This results in
greater circulation of energy and oxygen in the body.
Stop eating when you are satisfied, not full.
Herbs For Immunity
Turkey Tail (mushrooms), Dried
Shiitake and Reishi Mushrooms strengthen immunity and
enhance the action of oxygen in the body. They can be
cooked into soups and other dishes or taken as a
supplement. Turkey tail (a mushroom) can be dried,
powdered and taken in one-ounce doses twice a day.
It
is also available as a supplement.
Garlic (except in cases of excess
heat), ginseng, unrefined aloe Vera juice, chlorella,
micro-algae, and barley also strengthen the immune
system.
ANTIOXIDANT nutrients include
vitamins E,A, C and several B vitamins; the minerals
selenium and zinc; bioflavonoids; the amino acid
cysteine, and antioxidant enzymes, especially
superoxide dismutase (SOD). These nutrients are
adequately supplied by making unprocessed whole grains
and a variety of vegetables a part of your daily
diet. These antioxidant nutrients are also available
in wheat and barley grass, sprouts, and cooked dark
green vegetables like collard greens, kale, turnip and
mustard greens, bok choy, rapini and dandelion greens.
If you are exposed to high levels
of toxins or have a weak immune system you may want to
take an antioxidant supplement.

include many of the mushrooms, antioxidants, chlorella
and other products discussed above.

Oneis attitude toward
life is one of the most important factors in
strengthening the immune system.
Resolve emotional issues; understand anger and
redirect that energy in positive ways. Turn it into
passion. Let go of old resentments. These negative
mental/emotional states affect our health on a
cellular and energetic level. They impede smooth and
healthy circulation of blood and energy throughout the
body.
A
strong immune system is dependent upon healthy
thoughts and attitudes. When we work at this
level, it becomes much easier to choose food and
lifestyle factors that contribute to good health.
When our mental/attitudinal health is ignored, we will
continue to make the same dietary and lifestyle
choices that support a weak immune system and poor
health. Our problems are a result of our
choices. Our choices are a result of our attitudes
and beliefs.
Take some time regularlyodaily is bestoto turn off
your mental distractions and explore any unhealthy
attitudes. Relative to any subject, ask yourself what
you believe to be true. Then write your immediate
answer(s). This practice is one way to uncover any
beliefs that are working against you. Next, write a
new positive belief to replace the negative one,
memorize it, and think it often.
Emotionally, poor immunity is
reflected in hostile, withdrawn, indifferent,
unresponsive behaviors as well as emotional
isolation. Itis beneficial to get involved with
people you trust whether socially or in a support
group. Participate in activities and situations that
are enjoyable to you and require involvement with
others. Vigorous aerobic exercise is helpful or, at
the least, brisk walking 3 or more times a week.
Attitudinal Healing Counseling is
geared toward resolving negative and unhealthy mental,
emotional, attitudinal, and spiritual states. More
importantly, you will discover the positive value of
the situation and move beyond it to a better reality.
Doing so will bring resolution to all types of
challenges. Take advantage of our offer for a free
30-40 minute Attitudinal Healing Session. Can be
done by phone or in our Pittsburgh office. To
schedule, call 412.421.7760 or send an email to
health@wholehealthresources.com. Offer expires
March 21, 2003.

We are all intimately
connected to a larger whole. Some call this Creative
Life Force, Higher Power, the Divine, or God. We tend
to forget this. Problems with immunity suggest
dissociation between oneself and the Divine. Weive
become estranged from our spirit, and our spirit is
not separate from the Divine. Ultimately, it is in
remembering our Oneness with the Divine and with All
of Life that problems tend to dissolve and take care
of themselves. This takes trust.
How To Know and
Trust
It requires a willingness to be quiet and ask
questions, then do some honest iinner listeningi.
The
answers will reveal themselves to you. Practicing
this consistently will instill confidence and trust in
the idea that we all have a Divine partner in life who
is ready and waiting to help when we ask, listen and
act on the answers that we receive. It is also
helpful to remember all the little imiraclesi that
have occurred in your life. Weive all experienced
them.
Some people find the spiritual support, guidance and
upliftment they seek from their Religion, and many
others do not. It is not necessary to be in a church
to experience the Love, guidance, and healing power of
God. Look around and youill see that the many
miracles called Life (God and Life are synonymous) are
everywhere. In nature--the animal, plant, and mineral
kingdom--in a beautiful piece of music, in art and
most creative actsothese are a few ways to experience
our connection, our oneness. Others are our moments
of laughter, passion, joy, gratitude, compassion,
kindness and unconditional giving. Practicing these
qualities enhances our spirit, our relationship with
God, and strengthens immunity.
Coming in April--our new Practical Spirituality
e-course. Check back for details.

There is a
correlation between a stressful lifestyle and loss of
immunity. Lifestyle changes are necessary.
Overwork depletes the body and lack of exercise causes
deterioration and poor circulation. Both create low
immunity. Even too much mental work damages
immunity. How? Too much thinking and worrying
directly impact the digestive organs and weaken our
ability to absorb nutrients.
Creating a nourishing rhythm to oneis life is
not an option. Weire bombarded with information,
commitments, things to do, and places to go. Good
health doesnit just happen. It comes from commitment
to oneself and a solid action plan.
Why not register for our Creating A Life
You Love e-course. If you're like most
people you have too many things to do, not enough time
or energy for all of it, and too little excitement,
passion and fulfillment from life.

Inflammatory diseases such as Rheumatoid
arthritis, asthma, MS, and inflammatory bowel diseases
such as Crohn's are triggered by high-fat,
high-calorie meals according to researchers from the
University at Buffalo, State University of NY. "If
people eat fast food-type meals every 3-4 hours, as
many do, they're constantly setting the stage for more
inflammation."
"Simple sugars from sweeteners and fruits, taken in
excess, encourage the growth of infections and yeasts."
Paul Pritchford, Nutrition Researcher.

Before I met you I pretty much accepted that I would
have bronchitis 3 or more times a year along with many
sinus infections. Then a friend suggested a
counseling session with you. After a very short time
following your recommendations for therapeutic foods
and taking the herbs, my lungs and sinuses cleared.
What's interesting is that I never associated my low
energy and negative mental state with these
infections. But now, 12 months since I've seen you,
not only have I not had sinus infections or
bronchitis, but also have about 100% more energy, a
more positive mind and healthier emotions. B.W.,
