Heart disease is the most prevalent health problem in this country. In Oriental Medicine, the heart includes not only the organ itself, but also the concept of the heart as a mental/emotional center. The heart regulates blood circulation and controls consciousness, spirit, sleep, memory, and the mind. Our emotions affect the actual functioning of the heart.

The heart, together with the liver, is related to the nervous system and brain. Heart and nervous system problems are related to calcium metabolism, stimulants, refined foods, aluminum, pesticides, marijuana and other intoxicants. Excess protein is equally damaging. Many heart problems involve deficiency. It is important to reduce liver excess, strengthen the kidneys and lungs.

Heart imbalances may show up as heart disease, hyperthyroid, hypertension, stroke, poor circulation, high cholesterol, tension headaches, loss of memory, mental illness, depression, mania, speech problems (stuttering, confused speech), scattered and confused mind, insomnia, excessive dreaming, and irrational behavior.

TREATMENT:

Nutritional therapy emphasizing foods to cleanse the vascular system and strengthen all organs is essential. A scattered mind and spirit impacts the health of the heart.
